Welcome to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, Texas.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10
Join us on Sunday, October 22nd, as we welcome Dr. Larry Meissner as our Mission Sunday Speaker. In May, Dr. Meissner went to the Hong Kong International School at the invitation of the head of the school, and met with a number of teachers and administrators about their service learning program and share his best practices. He spent another week at Ma Chan Duen Hey Lutheran School and worked with junior high students learning English. They discussed American Culture, nature, history, etc, and the major concepts of Christianity. In September, he went to Concordia International School in Shanghai, China, and spent one week speaking to numerous classes about the intersection of faith and science. He accompanied a group of high school students from CIS, all fluent in English and Cantonese, on a dinosaur fossil dig in the Gobi Desert of northern China where they searched two sites for dinosaur bones. They visited numerous historical sites such as the Great Wall, the Mogao Buddhist Grottos and several tourist cities. Come and join us and hear about Dr. Meissner’s trips and the work he is doing on our behalf!
Join your brothers and sisters in Christ in celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation! On October 29, 2017, the congregations of Circuits 22 and 23 (Lee, Fayette, and Bastrop counties) are hosting a special worship service at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin at 4 PM for this occasion. Scripture readings and hymns will highlight the Reformation truth that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, taught in Scripture alone, because of Christ alone. The offering received at this service will go to support the ministry of Faith Lutheran High School of Central Texas; you are encouraged to bring an offering that commemorates the Reformation (for example, $15.17 for the year the Reformation began; $20.17 for the 500th anniversary year; $95.00 for the 95 Theses; etc.). You are also invited to a dessert reception in St. Paul’s gym after the service; please bring a German-themed dessert to share (for example, coffee cake). Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to celebrate the good news of Jesus Christ during this 500th Anniversary of the Reformation!
